Ever since the new Doctor Who series began five years ago, fans have been clamoring for guest appearances by their favorite companions (and monsters) from the classic era. While each season seems to revive another species of monster, the only classic companion to return has been Sarah Jane Smith. When Elisabeth Sladen, who originally appeared with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, made a guest appearance opposite David Tennant in 2006, the enthusiastic fan reception inspired Russell T Davies to create the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures. The series is still going strong on the BBC, and Season Three offers the added attraction of a guest appearance by David Tennant in the last scenes he filmed as the Tenth Doctor. The Doctor doesn’t seem best pleased to see Sarah Jane hooking up with Nigel Havers, but since this season premieres on DVD, we’ll have to wait until early next year to find out why.

And if BBC America weren’t run by a bunch of incompetent boobs, Americans would have been able to legally watch the David Tennant episode of Sarah Jane Season 3 on television BEFORE David Tennant’s final specials as the Doctor (which is how the shows were screened in the UK).
I’ll gladly continue buying Sarah Jane from BBC Video in the US as the seasons are released, but that won’t stop me from watching the episodes online soon after they premiere in the UK (if an international version of the BBC iPlayer existed, I’d gladly pay a monthly fee to watch all the great UK shows BBC America won’t air).
That was a good episode
Love davind tennant, x
I agree with UKTV fan…There is so much on UK TV which, if it played here would be a great boon to television, since there’s so little worth watching on American TV.
It’s a shame we can’t watch Sarah Jane legally here in the US. Wish the new president of BBCA would get his act together & SOON!
use an IP anonymizer and point it to a UK proxy…then you can watch them…
BBC America (AKA “The Ramsey Network) is run by idiots. This episode (and the whole series) has been online for ages. When is BBC America going to realize that we want to see shows WHEN THEY SHOW IN THE U.K.? And Ramsey? Maybe never…
I agree with the above. I love all BBC but can’t get all the shows.
I’m involved in copyright reform (See http://BillC32.ca for current work), and I believe if these old-economy distributors moved past excessively complex contractual arrangements and region restrictions they would do far more to lower copyright infringement than *ANY* change to the Copyright law (domestically or internationally) could ever do. The same with DRM which reduces sales far more than it reduces copyright infringement, especially since DRM induces quite a bit of infringement. Much of copyright infringement I have observed in recent years is self-inflicted by the copyright holders/distributors. It is really hard to be sympathetic to their position in the policy debates.
I find it frustrating that even as a big Dr. Who and Torchwood fan I wasn’t even aware of the Sarah Jane Adventures until seeing it advertised on a Dr. Who series DVD. I watched the end of Dr. Who series 4 a little confused about what was going on with Sarah since School Reunion, and where she was. BBC Canada and BBC Kids are doing a poor job of cross-advertising these types of things, and getting the shows on the air closer to when they air in the UK.
I agree with Nina we want to watch Sarah Jane we love it at our house but only got to see the first season. Hope they bring it back to the US.
I agree I am sick of the Ramsey this that and everything else – I know BBC has other non-Ramsey shows – lets see some of them like Sarah Jane before comes out on DVD – Thanks for leting us vent so please change. This is for me and the five Grandchildren that are Loyal Fans
For the technology challenged the library(or netflix) is our friend. I boorrow things like Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures there. Better late than never.
I wish BBC would stop treating us Americans as if we left them to start our own country or something ……Oh wait we did …but they have to stop with giving us Gordon Ramsey and give us Sarah Jane……We deserve it really or else I will have to use my sonic screwdriver on the new BBC Ceo wait it doesn’t work on wood……….No really it doesn’t but cmon Chap give us some Sarah Jane PLEASE ……..
I saw the first series on the SyFy (Sci-Fi) channel. Don’t think they have shown any more, though. Wish they would!
I think that the reason we aren’t allowed to watch a lot of British television shows is so the American viewing public won’t realize that the some of the shows they watch are watered down versions of British ones.
Like some of the comments I wish we could watch some of the past thirty years worth of BBC programming here in the US. I would gladly pay a monthly fee for such services. Like I pay for Sirius.
I wish Comcast (Channel 1) would list British series besides everything else they list…British shows spoil us because they are so superior to U.S. television. I would be willing to pay a hefty fee to receive British
shows…
I agree with most of the other comments. My husband and I watch mostly PBS – and absolutely love BBC productions. One of our favorites is Last of the Summer Wine. We have all the ones which have been for sale in BBC catalogs and watch them when there’s nothing on American TV (which is more frequent than we’d like)!
The pratice of showing edited versions of Dr Who is really to bad. Its so frustrating the see a rerun and realze theres somthing missing!
Thye do the same with other shows too. Please stop it!
