MI-5 Volume 10 marks its final season

MI-5: Volume 10

After ten years of undercover scenarios ripped from the headlines and our deepest fears, MI-5 is coming to a close, with its last season currently airing opposite Downton Abbey in the UK. Many of the long-time followers of MI-5 have wondered whether this season will at long last bring the relationship between Harry (Peter Firth) and Ruth (Nicola Walker) to a satisfactory resolution. Security remains high on that front, but we did find this tidbit in Radio Times:

“The romance was never scripted,” admits Firth. “It was her and I flirting in takes, holding looks too long, lingering over lines. The writers picked up on that and it just grew from there. Nicola Walker, who plays Ruth, is a bit unpredictable – you never know what she’s going to do – but she’s an utter joy to play alongside.”

To commemorate the series history, the MI-5: Volume 10 DVD extras include Top Ten MI-5 Moments chosen by the cast and crew and Harry’s Game, devoted to MI-5’s most constant character. Look for the DVD earlier next year.

  1. Ara J. Bagdasarian says:

I am very sorry that Sir Harry is no longer be with us fighting evil elements of the society! Are we declaring “mission Accomplished”!
Three cheers to BBC for this series

  2. Kipton Tewksbury says:

We are up to Series 4 on DVD from our local library. We love it. With all of its convoluted and at times violent plot lines, the real story is in the relationships between the characters. “West Wing” and “Castle” are two others that we enjoy for that reason, although they are very different from “MI-5″.

All good things must end, it seems. We still have 6 seasons of it to what at our own pace.

Bravo to everyone connected with the show.

  3. Maxine Stansell says:

Can anyone tells when the final season will appear on BBC America?

  4. tracy says:

will season 10 of MI5 be broadcast on BBC Canada? If so when.

  5. Elise Flynn from California says:

What an outstanding program!Perhaps one of the most brilliant programs on TV. So sorry to see it end. When will it broadcast in the US??!! A truly superb ensemble cast, even with all the cast changes. The one program that made you sit on the edge of your seat for the whole show. Bravo, bravo to the cast, crew and writers for creating this show and for never insulting the audience’s intelligence. Congrats to all.

  6. Carolyn says:

Do you know when this will come out on DVD for USA? I have it on order in Region 2 format, but if I don’t have to wait too long then Region 1 would be good.

  7. Barbara Kerkhoff says:

Love MI-5 – ! It’s the one show I never fall asleep during no matter how tired I am. Will miss it if it goes off the air. Actually love all of the British plays/series and am looking forward to the next series of episodes of Downtown Abbey. Thanks BBC – you are stellar.

  8. Brigitta Brittain says:

I very much enjoy the show and have been watching here in Canada for many years.
Unfortunately BBC Canada shows it at 7 pm in the evening!
What a terrible time slot for such a sophisticated show!

  9. Kim Ytreeide says:

This has been absolutely the best show on television…I’ve been absolutely hooked since accidentally catching the episode where Fiona was killed. So sad that it will be over! Bravo from one of the cousins!

  10. Dr J C McIntosh says:

Truly, the most INTELLIGENT show on TV! We’ll miss it greatly!

  11. Bobbie says:

I am in total shock…and truly sad. MI-5 is my all-time favorite television show. I’ve watched every episode, several more than once. This show is the best “TV” experience, ever! I will be anxiously awaiting volume 10. Has anyone ever asked “why all good things must come to an end”? The eternal optimist in me does not subscribe to that
motto…even tho physics demands it. God, I will miss that show!! American television cannot hold a candle to British TV.

  12. camille says:

i miss tom and adam and lucas and harry and zaf and ruth and colin and malcolm and jo and ros…all of them, this was an exceptional show, thank god it wasn’t dumbed down for the audience like a lot of American shows are…also very few continuity gaffes you usually see. just a very entertaining series, i’ll probably have to own the ‘adam’ years

  13. Mary Huelsenbeck says:

I will truly miss this show. It is the best on TV. Where can I obtain DVD’s of this series ?

  14. Henry says:

Bittersweet… However, ten years is a long, long time. Smart to end it now.
I’ve begun to review Season 1, in sequence, via Netflix. Having not viewed previous seasons, since original airing, I’m in for a treat. The work remains engaging, the memory unburdened and the episodes fresh.

I love it…10 years and out. Like good music…listen to it more than once.

    Thank you.
    Henry

  15. Dawn Emanuel says:

I have watched all 9 seasons in the past two months on Netflix. I had happened upon the series on PBS but couldn’t find a regular showing schedule. I want in anticipation of the airing of Season 10.
I have always been a mystery and spy enthusiast, but most shows I figure out before they reach the end. I never could with MI-5. Thank you for the wonderful entertainment and congratulations on a well written, well acted seris.

  16. Anne says:

I love this show! It made me fall in love with Matthew Macfayden, Rupert Penry-Jones, and Richard Armitage. I can’t wait to see Season 10. I own Seasons 1-8. It’s sad to see it end.

  17. Beverly says:

I will miss this program so very much. It was so well written and acted. The episodes were always something to get excited about and look forward too. So much happened at the end of season 9, life changng events, it will be fascinating to see where our characters are in the final season. It is a mixed emotion feeling..looking forward to seeing season 10, but sad this is the end.

  18. J Michael Wilson says:

The best, consistently excellent series ever and a good portrait of the covert services. My favorite quote, “Whatever you think it is, it isn’t.”

  19. Claudette says:

By far one of the best covert series. Loved it through all the changes in the lead actors. Looking forward to Season 10!! I hope the writers brought relationship between Ruth and Harry to a satifactory conclusion. Talk about frustrated LOVE !!! GREAT SERIES

  20. Frank Pautler says:

BBC has a winner and should keep series running…at least till I die, in about 40 years!

  21. Shane says:

An absolutely fanatasic show! I have bought every DVD and find it difficult not to watch the entire season in one day. I wish American TV had something as well written and as cerebral instead of “reality shows”. How many shows write off or kill their lead actors every season and still keep the same level of quality? MI-5 will be sorely missed.

  22. Bobbie says:

Where, how to see season 10??? I just discovered MI5 about a month ago and have almost finished watching season 1-8 on Netflix. I don’t want the show to end. It is totally compelling – have to watch more than one episode a night!!!

  23. Ed McPartlin says:

I watch MI5 on WGBH in Boston which has recently mistreated the program badly, moving it from day to day, time to time. At least for this January of 2012 it is being shown Mondays at 10:00 P.M. Hopefully in future months WGBH will continue to show the program through series 10 which is either now showing or recently ended on the BBC. As far as I can tell the series is as fresh as ever and I am disappointed it is not being continued.

  24. Carey Stone says:

I’m officially in mourning on two counts. First, for the end of this marvelous series. Second, having to wait until 2013 for the DVD’s.
Better than any drama in the States by a long shot.

  25. Betty says:

Found this show on US TV only this year and have watched everything to date but Season 10. Cannot wait to see it. There seem to be alot of folks who want the DVDs and can’t find them – all I can say is Amazon.com – you can have at least eight seasons on your doorstep in less than a week if you purchase them new (free shipping), but need to wait a little longer if you purchas a used set. If you look for sellers who have five star reviews and read what people are saying about them in the reviews you can do really well. In about six years of DVD ordering from them have only had one dud (which was my fault – didn’t check reviews).

  26. Jessica says:

Wonderful show and it is sad to see it end. Will the extras be included in the region 1 DVD? If not, why?

  27. Gina says:

Absolutely brilliant show! Will indeed miss it when it’s gone. You can stream the first few seasons on Netflix and get subsequent seasons on DVD from them.

  28. Patty says:

Love the show … It will be missed .

  29. Betty Freeman says:

I have just ordered the soon- to- be released season 10 of MI-5. This will complete my set and I can start at the beginning again. So lucky to have found it, bought it and still love it. I will truly miss the show. Adieu Harry and company.

  30. ron chane says:

bravo to bbc and the many casts of mi-5 through the years.
Have gotten so much enjoyment from the series and am
thinking of buying the whole series. Will miss this show
    very much.

  31. Annie Tremblay says:

Wow, M15 is THE most brilliant series ever made. CSI cannot even compare to it. All the caracters are amazing. I love them all but mostly miss Adam Carter very cruelly. His death felt so reel to me. Sniff…….Sniff……
Too bad you are stopping at 10 seasons.
    Love ya all.
    :-)

  32. Louis G says:

I began watching re-runs of MI-5 apearing between the PBS and BBC America channels. I enjoyed it so much my wife bought me all 9 seasons as a Christmas gift. We both became hooked and found ourselves watching 2 sometimes 3 episodes per night. We recently finished Season 10 and was sad to see such a brilliant piece of drama come to a close. Kudos to BBC for an outstanding series.

  33. Marna says:

Just found this great show on Netflix. Am totally hooked, I watch 2 or 3 episodes a night.
I don’t want it to end but can’t wait to see what happens to Harry. What a great actor and cast. Makes life worth living.

  34. Don Holmes says:

It’s been weeks now since I clicked on my MI-5 Netflixs. but I did last friday and saw a new red cover and I said mate I haven’t seen that cover before!
When I clicked on it and it showed season 10, I jumped for joy..fixed a sandwich & chips even pour sda in a glass with rocks. We it’s Monday a week later and I finished the series and I almost cried when they said the helicopter would take 12 minutes to get to Ruth. Only LUTHER is n the same ballpark as MI-5. I wish our writers here in the states had a 1/10th of a % of the imagination the writers and cast as MI-5…Peter Firth is great and the sad thing is I finally liked the home secretary at the end..the chemistry was right with him & Harry! CHEERS

  35. David Gould says:

The best TV show! Great acting and stories. Actually intelligent. One of the few shows I will miss.

  36. Irish says:

The best spy show on tv — fell in love with Rupert and have been watching him now in the White Chapel series. I can’t wait to see how MI5 ends the season. Wish we could have more though — don’t know what I will do on Wednesday nights. Thanks to all.

  37. n says:

I just got number ten …. superb ending….. through the Toronto Public Library!!!!I have seen them all. Sorry this was the last. The quality was amazing. Thanks to the whole crew involved . This is what TV should be . Chapeau!

  38. Claudine de Arrigunaga says:

Just watched the last episode of Season 10. No doubt MI5 has been the best show on TV for a long while. I am truly sorry this was the last season. We have all the DVDs and will continue to watch the series from the very begining. The way it ended with Harry, leaves room for a come back. Please consider NOT ending the season at this time. Thank you.

  39. jim kirby says:

Best show on tv. please find a way to continue

  40. MC says:

My all time favorite show. Just watched the last episode of season 10 today on NetFlix. I am so very sorry to hear this is the last season. It is truly a program with sophistication and intrigue that kept me hooked for 10 years. I think I’ll go back to season 1 and start all over again!

  41. Annette in US says:

Hope the BBC will pick up with MI-5/Spooks again…awesome show! I have cried every time an agent gets killed. Series 10 just knocked me for a loop. Brit TV is the best!
