Go fourth and enjoy! The new Doctor Who returns for a fourth season with a familiar face. In the BAFTA® - and Hugo Award-winning series, Catherine Tate (Big Train, Bleak House) reprises her role as Donna Noble from the 2006 Christmas Special. Now reunited, the tenth Doctor (David Tennant, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Donna travel back to Pompeii in 79 A.D. to investigate a series of grisly murders on the eve of the infamous eruption. Look for previous companions Rose Tyler (Billie Piper, Mansfield Park) and the feisty Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman, Torchwood). Includes many extras.

Disc 1 - 2007 Christmas Special - Voyage of the Damned
Kylie Minogue steps back in time this festive season, as she joins Time Lord David Tennant for a spectacular Doctor Who Christmas Special set on board The Titanic.

At the end of series three, fans witnessed the The Titanic crash through the Tardis walls in spectacular style, and this Special continues from that moment.

Kylie, who plays Astrid, a waitress on The Titanic, says: "It is an incredible thrill to be joining David and the entire Dr Who production for this year's Christmas special. Dr Who enjoys a unique history and it is going to be very exciting to be a part of that."

Two of Britain's best-loved sitcom actors, Geoffrey Palmer and Clive Swift, also feature in this Christmas episode.

Palmer, perhaps most famous for his roles in the long-running BBC series Butterflies and As Time Goes By, plays the role of Captain of The Titanic.

Kylie Minogue stars as Astrid, alongside David Tennant as The Doctor.

Voyage Of The Damned also features Gray O'Brien, who recently appeared in the Oscar-winning film The Queen; Debbie Chazen, star of the BBC comedy series The Smoking Room; Olivier Award-winner Clive Rowe; Russell Tovey, from the smash-hit film The History Boys; Jimmy Vee, who previously appeared in Doctor Who as the Moxx of Balhoon; and George Costigan, who starred in The Long Firm and the acclaimed film Rita, Sue And Bob Too.

Series 4

Production Notes
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Howard Atfield, who played Donna's father in The Runaway Bride. He was scheduled to reprise the role in this series but sadly he died, so rather than recast the role the character of Gramps (Wilfred Mott) was created. Wilfred and Donna's mother Sylvia Noble are semi-regular characters throughout Series 4.
Two versions of this episode were made, one without Billie Piper, which was used for all screenings before transmission. The ploy worked. No one but the production crew knew about the version including Billie until the night of transmission, so her appearance came as a complete surprise.
Billie has no dialogue in her scene with Catherine Tate.

2. The Fires Of Pompeii
The Doctor and Donna travel back into ancient history. When they arrive in 79AD, however, they discover psychic powers and beasts of stone running riot in the streets of old Pompeii. The Unicorn And The Wasp is a classic murder mystery, with a country house, vintage cars, a flapper, a vicar, a butler, a body in the library, tea on the lawn and horrible deaths. See how many titles of Agatha Christie novels you can spot hidden in the dialogue.
Mathew Prichard, Agatha Christie’s grandson, comments: “What a brilliant idea that Agatha Christie and Doctor Who should meet! Two characters whose contribution to British entertainment is absolutely unrivalled. As far as I know my grandmother, Agatha Christie, never saw Doctor Who, but I am sure she would have been intrigued, excited and above all flattered by all this attention in 2007.”

Production Notes
The cliffhanger ending in Episode 12 (as the Doctor began to regenerate) fuelled great speculation by both the media and fans that David Tennant would be replaced by a new Doctor Who.
Julian Bleach (Davros) also plays the violin and is a member of the Phillip Glass ensemble. He created and starred in the musical Shockheaded Peter, which won the 2002 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment.
Bleach played the ringmaster in Torchwood: From Out of the Rain.

“… the finest television drama in recent memory … three cheers for Russell T Davies and his senior henchmen, Messrs Moffatt and Cornell. Their achievement has been not just to resurrect an old franchise, but to make it thrilling both for children who had never before seen a Tardis, and for their parents who had.” Sam Leith, Daily Telegraph

“The second half of this series has been a remarkable demonstration of what is possible in drama for the family: a mind-bending complexity of the extended story centred on a giant library; the holiday that turned into a nightmare, with a weird woman spooking the Doctor by echoing everything he said; the sci-fi version of Sliding Doors’ premise in the Turn Left episode, switching Donna into an alternative universe facing apocalypse; and the two-part finale concluding tonight, a Whovian Götterdämmerung…”John Dugdale, Sunday Times

“There is so much right about the new Doctor … The casting is impressive. The show’s special effects are terrific.” The Times

“…the series has re-created a sense of Saturday night telly as communal, family-centred, mainly wholesome entertainment. Some critics complain that it is too frightening for young minds, but if it was less scary our children would not insist that we parents watched it with them. The terror factor gels the family.” Quentin Letts, Daily Mail

“The antithesis of a Lara Croft-style heroine, [Donna] cannot fight or run and has no special expertise. But she does have a stroppy humanity that acts as a corrective to the Doctor’s manic brilliance and forces him to question his abstract rules.” Sunday Times

“Catherine Tate brought plenty of laughs to Saturday’s Doctor Who – but if you were worried there’s too much comedy and not enough sci-fi, don’t worry, it’s all part of the masterplan… Can’t wait.” Daily Mirror

“Dr Who always provides an engrossing romp, with enough layers and asides to keep parents and kids entertained. In this episode, the show is well and truly stolen by the 6in Adipose aliens themselves. As cute as the Pillsbury dough boy and apparently as ticklish, they’ll win over the most cynical viewer - a bit like the show itself.” Neil Midgley, Daily Telegraph

“…we are glad to report that series four is more than worth the wait. The excitement builds right from the off with a souped up theme tune – an orchestral take on the much loved classic melody. The lush strings are a fitting opener to the touching first episode, Partners In Crime.” Colin Robertson, Sun

“David Tennant is back as the gallivanting Gallifreyan, and boy, have we missed him! And while we didn’t think the show could get any better, it has, thanks to Catherine Tate’s reappearance as Donna Noble.” News of the World

“The scripts are great, production values are still high, David Tennant is brilliant…”David Stephenson, Express on Sunday

“…the new series looks set to be out of this world … Landing back on to Earth with a supersonic bump, DW was sharp, touching and witty – perfect family viewing … Catherine Tate is David Tennant’s latest aide, bringing with her experience, age and excellent comic timing … Gone is the annoying screeching in the Dr Who Christmas special and her sketch-show creations, although there is a glimmer of Derek ‘How Very Dare You’ Faye and ‘Am I Bovvered’ Lauren. But Tate proves herself a talented and versatile actress. Watching Tate and Tennant miming at each other across a room as they spot each other again was telly gold.” Jon Wise, People

“Doctor Who often hits like Naomi Campbell.” Garry Bushell, Daily Star
