The threat
of Communism created an air of paranoia in the
United States in the 1950s. Exploiting those
fears was Senator Joseph McCarthy, who went
nearly unchecked until exposed by famed CBS
reporter Edward R. Murrow and his producer
Fred Friendly. While their actions took a great
personal toll on both newsmen, their firm
convictions helped bring down one of the
most controversial senators in American history.
Hailed as “a passionate, thoughtful essay on
power” (The New York Times) and “smart,
sharp, and lively” (Entertainment Weekly), this five-star film includes
performances that garnered Academy Award® nominations for director
George Clooney and leading actor David Strathairn as well
as another for Best Picture.
