Poldark: Series 1

In the first episode of one of the most popular BBC dramas of all times, Captain Ross Poldark returns to Cornwall from the American War of Independence, only to find that his fiancée, Elizabeth Chynoweth, is about to marry his cousin. You'll be swept headlong into the tumultuous events that follow, as Ross tries to restore his ruined estate, and shocks his neighbors by marrying Demelza, the daughter of a local miner. Rivalries, smuggling and love triangles keep your heart pounding through all 16 episodes of this exciting historical drama, as seen by millions on Masterpiece Theatre.

Episode 1 - Ross returns from fighting for Britain in the American Revolution only to find his ex-fiance, Elizabeth, now engaged to his cousin Francis.

Episode 2 - Verity, Ross' cousin, is considered by everyone to be an old maid. They are all astonished when she attracts the attention of Captain Blamey at a ball. Unfortunately her father strongly disapproves of the match because the Captain is an ex-prisoner and former alcoholic. He forbids them to meet but Ross and Demelza take pity on Verity and encourage them to meet secretly so that Verity can get to know him better.
Verity also tells Ross that Demelza is in love with him which amazes him. He still has feelings for the exquisite Elizabeth but he feels a growing affection for Demelza.

Episode 3 - Ross' former employee, Jim Carter, stands trial for poaching and Ross gives evidence in his defence.
Demelza, taken in as a maid by Ross, falls in love with him but learns that Ross still loves Elizabeth. She seduces him and becomes pregnant, running away because she knows that he isn't likely to want the child.

Episode 4 - Ross learns that Demelza is pregnant and goes looking for her. Demelza gets into terrible trouble with her Puritan father and step-mother who can't stand the scandal. Before this Elizabeth finally agreed to run away with Ross and leave Francis whom she doesn't love.

Episode 5 - Ross decides to marry Demelza because she is pregnant to Elizabeth's great displeasure. Ross'daughter Julia is born and he holds a party to celebrate. Elizabeth is very unhappy and not nice to Demelza.

Episode 6 - Ross Poldark goes to a party and gets into a card game.
Meanwhile, in business Ross is still at odds with the Warleggans - who seem to hold all the cards.

Episode 7 - The Warleggan family discover a new way to attack and Ross does not know about it.

Episode 8 - Demelza want to help Elizabeth take care of Francis. A ship being wrecked in the Cove means danger to Ross.

Episode 9 - The time of Ross' trial has almsot come and someone's paying witnesses to provide evidence against Ross.

Episode 10 - Finally, Ross' trial begins. Some of the spectators want to see him hung.

Episode 11 - After his honesty at the trial, Jud is reinstated at Nampara.

Episode 12 - Jud is found, but he has been beaten to death.

Episode 13 - Financial ruin threatens at the same time a son is born.

Episode 14 - Ross is still determined to find Mark Daniel.

Episode 15 - Elizabeth accepts a marriage proposal

Episode 16 - The feud between the Poldarks and the Warleggans must come to an end.
