Sometimes, the greatest
journey is the distance between two
people. An estranged husband and wife
find redemption in the most unlikely
places in this adaptation of W. Somerset
Maugham?s classic novel. Kitty (Naomi
Watts, King Kong, 21 Grams) enters
into a convenient marriage to studious
bacteriologist Dr. Walter Fane, played
by Oscar?- and BAFTA?-nominated
Edward Norton (The Illusionist, Fight
Club), who subsequently moves the
couple to Shanghai. There, Walter is
engrossed in his work, while Kitty
embarks on an affair with the dashing
diplomat Charlie Townsend, played by
Emmy?- and Golden Globe?-nominated Liev Schreiber (The Omen, The
Manchurian Candidate). An ultimatum in the form of a cholera epidemic
deep in rural China forces the couple to seek a cure?for the disease as well
as their marriage. A visual delight amidst the pain and suffering of a dying
people and a failing marriage. Don?t miss Dame Diana Rigg as a wise old
Mother Superior who charms and inspires Kitty.
