Top Gear 17 begins with Jeremy throwing a low key party for the 50th anniversary of the legendary Jaguar E-type-complete with live music, classic fighter planes and a group of Royal Marines. Richard Hammond finds himself in South Africa testing a bigger, even more rugged alternative to the famous Hummer while James May meets up with gold medal winning British Olympian Amy Williams for a wintry test of the latest Mini rally car. The boys then head to Italy to take part in a series of tricky challenges (and increasingly loud arguments) as they attempt to find the world's best hot hatchback. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a full track test of the incredible McLaren MP4-12C as it meets its deadliest supercar rival, the Ferrari 458. "Celebrities in a Reasonably Priced Car" include rock legend Alice Cooper, comedian Ross Noble and Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel. It's more madness, mayhem, and motor hilarity with the world's most popular car entertainment show, Top Gear!

The team travel to Italy to test high-performance hatchbacks. Jeremy Clarkson is in the Citroen DS3 Racing, Richard Hammond is in the Fiat 500C Abarth and James May is in the Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup as they navigate their way round a baffling Italian town, take part in a scavenger hunt and drive around the Monaco Grand Prix track.
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond find second-hand bargains for the price of Britain's cheapest brand new car, the Nissan Pixo. James May is in Nevada to test the toughness of the Range Rover Evoque and to chauffeur a male impersonator of Cher through Las Vegas. Also, the McLaren MP4-12C is compared with its rival, the Ferrari 458.
The team uses caravans to attempt to make train travel cheaper, faster and more interesting, replacing the locomotive with a specially modified car and carriages. Also Jeremy Clarkson takes the Jaguar XKR-S and the recently updated Nissan GT-R for a test drive on the track to compare them.
Jeremy Clarkson tries out the new Lotus T125, and an updated version of the classic Jensen Interceptor. Also, the team employs all manner of second-hand military equipment to knock down a row of derelict houses, aiming to complete the job in less time than a team of demolition experts.
Jeremy Clarkson and James May set out for the seaside in a pair of electric cars, the Nissan Leaf and the Peugeot iOn, stopping off in Lincoln along the way. Richard Hammond meets an extraordinary rally team in which everyone is an amputee with a military background, and finally the new Lamborghini Aventador is taken out on the track.
