Where Angels Fear to Tread

Considering the stars and the author, this film set must have felt like a Merchant/Ivory reunion.

Fools rush in to solve a problem they perceive in this lushly filmed romantic tale, set in Italy’s breathtaking Tuscan hills. When a wealthy English widow (Dame Helen Mirren, Prime Suspect, Elizabeth I, Gosford Park) falls in love with a passionate but penniless Italian while on holiday, her horrified in-laws (Rupert Graves, A Room with a View, Fortunes of War, The Forsyte Saga; Judy Davis, Marie Antoinette, A Passage to India) try to prevent the marriage. All bets are off when they learn they’re too late. Under the spell of its music, beauty and charm, you, too, will lose your heart to Italy. Also starring Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Howard’s End, A Room with a View). Based on the novel by E.M.
